Fusing downtempo blunted beats with Jazz , inspirational strings, and chill out vibez, is the essence of the Sykes project. Sykes a.k.a Martin Stovey has succeeded in creating a unique sound that is true to his Hip Hop roots, and also demonstrates his love of jazz. This was demonstrated on the debut CD/LP entitled 'I-Witness' released on the Iris Light label in September 2000,which was described by XLR8R (Issue 47) as '…a chill out masterpiece…'.

Since then Sykes has recorded for LTJ Bukems Good Looking offshoot Cookin Records, (Cookin 4 12'', and 'Ingredients Step 1' CD/LP compilation) and has just completed the follow up long player entitled 'Clunk Click'.

'Clunk Click' is due for release on the Iris Light label later this year (2002) and serves up 10 more slices of downbeat electronica, an EP is currently under construction, which will include remixes from Paul Jackson (Ministry Of Sound) for release late 2002.
